Services & Procedures
We at Burnham Oral Surgery want our patients to know that we believe in the importance of leading-edge dentistry when it comes to making our patients comfortable. Our mission is to leverage new technology to improve the lives of our patients.
But we also realize that nothing can take the place of that personal touch when people are concerned. Our entire team works hard to ensure you feel comfortable and cared for while you are here.
Wisdom Teeth & Nonrestorable Teeth
A tooth extraction is usually a treatment of last resort, but sometimes it’s the best option to keep the rest of your teeth healthy. If you have a tooth that is decayed or damaged beyond repair, we can provide skilled extraction that encourages quicker healing. We can also talk to you about tooth replacement options, such as dental implants.
If you have wisdom teeth that are causing problems, we can remove them. Whether they have erupted or are impacted, most people simply don’t have room for these extra teeth or can't properly clean them because of their position in the back of the mouth. Extraction is frequently the best option.
Nothing is better than dental implants for tooth replacement, whether you need one implant or several. Dental implants can also be used to secure a bridge or even a denture.
Not replacing one or more missing teeth leads to other problems with your mouth, including more tooth loss.
With our advanced 3-D digital technology, we can plan and place dental implants precisely for outstanding outcomes. We offer a number of anesthesia options to ensure your comfort during the procedure.
We realize you might feel somewhat anxious about your procedure, and to that end, we offer a number of different options for sedation.
Local anesthesia. The area to be treated will be numbed with a device called the “Wand,” which provides anesthetic in a consistent dosage.
Nitrous oxide (also called laughing gas). Breathed in through a mask similar to oxygen, nitrous will leave you in a completely relaxed state. Because it leaves the body almost immediately after you stop breathing it in, you will still be able to drive yourself home if you haven’t combined it with another type of sedation.
Intravenous sedation. This type of sedation is delivered straight into the bloodstream. Because its effects linger, you will need to arrange transportation after your procedure.
When there isn’t enough bone left in the jaw to support dental implants, surgical intervention is needed. With SMART bone grafting, patients appreciate the fact that there is just one surgical site for harvesting the bone, which means less pain, swelling, and downtime. Dr. Stearns was the first the first oral surgeon to become certified in this leading-edge procedure and was the first certified practitioner in Colorado.
The SMART bone graft is excellent for patients who have either a horizontal or vertical bone defect or both. It is useful for patients who have been missing a tooth for quite some time and need added bone for implant placement.
If you are referred to us by your general dentist because of a suspicious spot in your mouth or throat, we can perform a biopsy and make an accurate diagnosis quickly.
For benign conditions, we can often remove the area in question immediately. If it turns out to be oral cancer, we will work with you in developing a treatment plan, whether that includes surgical removal of the lesion or removal plus radiation and chemotherapy.
