It has been a while since my last blog post.
2017 is off to a great start and I’m excited to announce (for anyone that may have missed it) that Dr. Anne Stearns has joined the practice in a full-time capacity. Dr. Stearns spent 2016 at Summit Oral & Implant Surgery in Loveland where she practiced all aspects of oral and maxillofacial surgery. Dr. Stearns shares my vision for exceptional patient care, and I’m thoroughly excited that she is part of our team.
Additionally, the 5280 Study Club has seen strong participation numbers with colleagues from all over the Front Range gathering monthly to discuss a host of topics ranging from implant biomechanics to treatment planning.
April’s topic focused on clinical treatment planning and we reviewed a case provided by Seattle Study Club which was presented by Drs. Andrea Ricci, Federico Ferraris, Caterina Ricci, and Fransesco Ferrari.
In the case, a 54-year-old patient presented after consultations with several other dentists whom all proposed different treatment plans. Considering the patient’s past and desired oral expectations, Study Club teams were configured to discuss treatment plan options.
From the breakout sessions, five key takeaways were discussed when planning treatment.
- The need to discuss the patient’s chief concern
- Determine the etiology of the patient’s current oral health
- Establish and discuss realistic expectations with the patient
- Determine patient’s commitment to achieving oral success
- Consideration of dental relapse
These five takeaways were discussed and presented by each group as we developed a treatment plan for the patient. Although most methods of treatment were agreed upon by the groups, there was some dispute. The disputes were healthy as they allowed us all to understand different methodologies that can help patients and all were accepted because it focused on providing a personalized experience with an emphasis on comfort and service.
Next month, the 5280 Study Club will reconvene with Dr. Nick Egbert to discuss “All-on-4” Alternatives.
Hope to see you there!
